Trauma

Trauma

Trauma does always look like the classic example of PTSD that our veterans experience. Trauma can be and is often caused by circumstances other than a war zone. I encourage people to look at Trauma as existing on a spectrum so that we don’t ignore the more subtle and common symptoms of it. It’s not uncommon for adults to not be aware that problematic patterns in relationships, anxiety, or low grade depression are potential indicators of unresolved Trauma.

Trauma Treatment Process

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a very effective and direct in treating trauma and PTSD related symptoms. Sorry, I don’t work directly with small children individually, but I would be happy to direct you to a play therapist who is able to provide trauma focused care for your child.

The treatment process can be intense and sometimes painful, but anyone who has successfully completed their trauma work will testify to the very real and invaluable treatment benefits. Trauma, like grief, does not ever completely disappear but it doesn’t have to be a consistent barrier to your well-being.
